§ 2-141. Positions.

  • (a)

    Police Chief. There is hereby established the office of the Chief of Police. The Chief of Police shall be appointed by the President with the concurrence of the Village Board. The Chief of Police may be appointed from any rank within the Village Police Department or from outside the Village Police Department. All members of the Police Department shall serve subject to the orders of the Chief of Police.

    (b)

    Deputy Chief. There is hereby created a position of Deputy Chief, to be appointed by the Chief from any rank of sworn, fulltime officers of the Village's Police Department, but the appointee must have at least five years of fulltime service as a police officer with the Village. The Deputy Chief shall be an exempt rank, immediately below that of the Chief, and the Deputy Chief shall serve at the discretion of the Chief. Any person removed from the position of Deputy Chief shall revert to the rank held immediately prior to the appointment to the Deputy Chief position.

    (c)

    Assistant Chief. There is hereby created a position of Administrative Assistant to the Chief, known as the Assistant Chief, to be appointed by the Chief. The Assistant Chief shall be an exempt rank immediately below that of the Chief and shall serve at the sole discretion of the Chief. If this position is filled by someone within the ranks of the Village Police Department, they may revert back to the rank held immediately prior to the appointment to Assistant Chief.
